In Liz Strauss’ 10 compelling reasons people read our blogs, number 9 on the list is the following:
You do what you can to make it easy to comment. Other than a small fence for spammers, you take the load of keeping a “clean yard” on yourself so that folks will find it easy to be part.
Liz, with 60,000+ comments on her blog and counting, must know what she is talking about. That’s her forte, communicating with her readers. We’d like to share 6 WordPress comment plugins that will enhance the experience of both bloggers and commenters:
1. Subscribe to Comments.
A plugin that allows commenters to “sign-up for e-mail notification of subsequent entries” after their comments. Download here.
2. Comment Relish.
Dispatches an e-mail to first-time commenters. The message is configurable. Download here.
3. WP Comment Remix.
This plugin do a lot of things, like a swiss knife for comments. Lots of widgets to place in our sidebars. Download here.
4. Liz Comment Counter by OZ.
Outputs a badge showing the number of comments in our blogs. Download here.
5. Separate Comments and Pings.
Like what its name says, this plugin separates the comments from the pings and trackbacks,making them less confusing to read. Download here.
6. Better Comments Manager.
Powerful comments management tool. Makes figthing spams a lot easier. Download here.

one of the plugins that i use is the Thread Comment. it organizes the conversation/comment. a reply to a particular comment will be “threaded” right below it which keeps the conversation going.
it will also send email (can be changed on the settings) that their comment has received a reply.

I would add gravatars and do-follow plugins to that list! That is if the themes don’t have them already.

Mine I recommend the plug-in that allows your readers to edit their comments for a certain period of time plus its easy delete comments features. I’m also using “Subscribe comments” plug-ins, this will let me know that someone is interested to come back for more discussion. Well the other listed here that’s for me to try.

I find it easier to use the sezwho commenting system. It adds a variety of features to the normal commenting system, including comment ratings. Comment relish is a must

SezWho is also fine. We migth reinstall it in the near future. We also love comment relish.

I have been using Comment Redirect, which redirects people leaving their first comment to a thank you page, but Comment Relish makes more sense, because the email stays in the user’s inbox for future reference and as a reminder to visit the site again…

The Better Comments Manager is an excellent admin tool because of the way you can organize posts. One plugin not mentioned is one that is offline: strong grammar, diligent punctuation and engaging content… these are the essence of good blogging. Let’s make sure we don’t rely to heavily on handy tools.
